Stand Up For Trains

Help Make High Speed Rail A Reality!“Critics of the high-speed rail project abound as they often do when something of this magnitude is proposed. During the 1930s, the Central Valley Water Project was called a ‘fantastic dream’ that ‘will not work.’ The Master Plan for the Interstate Highway System in 1939 was derided as ‘New Deal jitterbug economics.’… Similarly, the Panama Canal was for years thought to be impractical and Benjamin Disraeli himself said of the Suez Canal: ‘totally impossible to be carried out.’ The critics were wrong then and they’re wrong now.” – California Governor Jerry Brown http://standupfortrains.org/ http://www.ca4hsr.org/ http://www.cahighspeedrail.ca.gov/

CA advanced lighting controls
Updated
On: Apr 11, 2011 (09:17:00)

Why Advanced Lighting Controls? The California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program (CALCTP) is a statewide initiative aimed at increasing the use of lighting controls in commercial buildings. CALCTP will educate, train and certify licensed C-10 electrical contractors, state-certified general electricians in the proper design, installation and commissioning of advanced lighting control systems. Advanced lighting control systems typically include: dimmers, occupancy sensors, photo-sensors, relay modules, and communication-based control devices.
Through proper installation practices, advanced lighting controls have the potential to improve energy efficiency in commercial facilities across California and help achieve significant energy savings. What is CALCTP Besides Electrician Training? To ensure proper commissioning and design, the CALCTP partners have developed a business component on how to effectively price an installation. Additionally, CALCTP partners are developing a course for specifiers (Architects, Engineers, Lighting Designers) on advanced lightning controls design and specification. Who is CALCTP?The CALCTP is a collaboration of: - California State Labor Management Cooperation Committee for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association (LMCC/IBEW-NECA)
- California Community College System
- California Energy Commission
- University of California-Davis-California Lighting Technology Center
- Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E)
- Southern California Edison (SCE)
- San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E)
- Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD)
- National Electrical Manufacturers Association

Local 684 turns 100 in 2010
Posted
On: Dec 03, 2010 (15:49:56)
Paying tribute to our first 100 years of Service On November 6th, 2010 IBEW Local 684 celebrated its 100th Anniversary. The evening was a special occasion for members, retirees and special guests. All joined to remember and honor the past achievements of our local union and its members. Special tribute was made to the twelve men who were present to sign our charter that was issued on Nov 28th 1910 in Modesto California. Our founding members were: Geo W. Wentworth, F.D. Halstead, R.W. Johnson, W.J. Thomas, C.J. Baird, Albert C. Sipe, J.A. Ross, E.F. Leach, Ed Sorensen, R.F. Linn, R.H. Lowe, and L.H. Castle. These men had the vision and drive to form this local and were willing to sacrifice and dedicate themselves for the betterment of the Industry. The event was held at Vintage Gardens in Modesto and a good time was had by all who attended. The staff at Vintage Gardens did a fantastic job with food and atmosphere. All were welcomed to the festivities by Local President Jeromy Myers and Business Manager Billy Powell. A special video presentation was shown from IBEW International President Ed Hill that spoke on the history of local 684 and how we have experienced hard times in the past. President Hill noted that we have and will overcome these difficult times again. IBEW 9th District Vice President Michael Mowrey was in attendance and spoke of past successes and offered encouragement for the future. The local was presented with plaques in recognition of the anniversary from the International Office of the IBEW and from the office of the 18th Congressional District, Congressman Dennis Cardoza. The best part of the evening was the members and retirees sharing stories and memories of the past; showing the true purpose of our Brotherhood. I would like to thank the many members throughout all the years, who have served this local as officers and committee members. To our current members who are willing to take the challenge to guarantee the success of Local 684 in the future, you are greatly appreciated. I am very proud to be able to share in this accomplishment with you and I look forward to working on our next 100 years of progress. Billy Powell Business Manager
